NEW PERSPECTIVE ON LIFE-CHANGING WISDOM
Emptiness, The Two Truths and Making Sense of it All

with Kadam Morten

How do things exist? What is the relationship between the world and the mind? Buddha’s astounding teaching on the wisdom understanding the two levels of reality, conventional truth and ultimate truth (also known as emptiness), answers these questions and enables us, finally, to make sense of it all. But, don’t take our word for it… come along and open yourself to an extraordinary and profoundly illuminating journey into a new perspective on reality that, if taken to heart, will definitely change your life for the better! Buddha’s teachings on wisdom are profound and challenging; but also playful, creative, and inspiring, and everyone can make use of them.

Kadam Morten will base his explanation on Je Tsongkhapa’s legendary verses on wisdom from the ancient text, The Three Principal Aspects of the Path, and on the extraordinary chapter on wisdom in Geshe Kelsang’s recent book, Modern Buddhism. He will guide us in different aspects of the meditation on emptiness and teach us how to integrate this liberating insight into our life to solve our daily problems.

OPENING OUR HEART TO OTHERS

with Donna Campanelli

One of Buddha’s great insights into the causes of happiness is that in order for us to experience true happiness, all we need to do is shift our focus from “self” to “other”. Our wish for others to be happy is a main cause for contentment and peace in our own minds. In this series, we will investigate several meditations that can help us achieve this beneficial shift allowing us to become ever more skillful in our efforts to bring harmony into our lives and the lives of those around us.

REMOVING ANGER FROM OUR LIFE

Buddhist Meditation and the Art of Transforming Problems

with Donna Campanelli

Saturday, May 19th 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM

We all have too much anger in our lives. Often we find ourselves in conflict with others, or overwhelmed by the difficulties we encounter throughout the day. We also carry around with us the burden of old resentments and disappointments. We feel the situation must be better elsewhere and yet, when we change things externally, it’s not long before we find ourselves experiencing similar conflicted situations.

Buddha’s teachings and the practice of meditation give us the tools to recognize our own anger and gradually to reduce and finally eliminate it. Moreover, we learn the art of transforming problems so that instead of responding with frustration and unhappiness, we respond to problems skillfully and even happily, seeing them as the very means for spiritual and psychological growth. By reducing our own anger and responding skillfully to problems, the conflicts and unhappiness in our lives greatly diminish. We find ourselves living the joyful, loving and beneficial life we have always longed for.

Through talks, guided meditations and discussion, Donna will guide us to experience Buddha’s special methods for ourselves. Anyone can benefit from these teachings and everyone is welcome!

REFUGE IN OUR TRANSCENDENTAL NATURE

Teachings on Refuge and Refuge Ceremony
with Kadam Morten

We all have a transcendental nature, a spiritual dimension to our being. We experience it whenever we feel a moment of love for another being, a sense of inner peace, a moment’s joy. In those moments, we are connecting with the pure nature of our mind, the potential within us for limitless love, peace, and joy. In a world of so much suffering and conflict, the key to a happy and meaningful life is to develop the ability to seek refuge in our transcendental nature, to connect with it, develop it, and share it with everyone in our life and in our world. In Buddhism, we call this going for refuge. In this course, Kadam Morten will explain the Buddhist objects of refuge, Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha; and how, through learning to rely on them, we connect with our pure nature. He will also show us how to integrate this practice into our daily life. In this way, we find protection from suffering, lay the foundation for happiness, and open the door to our future enlightenment. This course will include a beautiful and blessed refuge ceremony whereby we formally take refuge in Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.

Pre-registration is not necessary. Everyone is welcome!

Schedule:

  • 10:00 AM – 11:30 PM Teaching and Meditation
  • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Refuge Ceremony and Guided Meditation on Refuge
  • 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM Further teaching and meditation

$30; Free for members.

Why Meditation?

We all wish to be happy and avoid problems, yet with the pace and stresses of our daily lives, it can be difficult to maintain a peaceful state of mind for any sustained period of time.  Through the simple practice of meditation we all have the potential to achieve lasting inner peace and eliminate the stressful states of mind that we currently encounter.

Meditation can help you to:

  • Reduce stress and tension
  • Reduce frustration and anger
  • Increase happiness and inner peace
  • Develop a calm and peaceful mind
  • Overcome minds of anxiety and depression
  • Improve relationships with others
  • Increase inner wisdom
  • Improve quality of life
  • Let go of the causes of pain and dissatisfaction
